It was a day of joy for the people of Kwara Central Senatorial District when their representative at the Upper Legislative Chamber, Senator Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki launched two grader machines for the maintenance and rehabilitation of rural roads under his Constituency.
Senator Saraki, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment & Ecology, stated in his welcome remarks that the project was borne out of his commitment on assuming office: To not only provide qualitative representation of his people at National Assembly but to equally ensure dividends of democracy are felt at the grassroots with direct and positive impact on the lives of the people.
Senator Saraki used the occasion to mention a few attested facts of his efforts towards his Constituency such as: the provision of Motorized and hand pump boreholes across the constituency, supply and installation of electrical transformer, renovation of health centres, construction of Primary Health Care Centre, construction of drainages and erosion control. In addition, Senator has launched initiatives to empower the youth. For two consecutive years, the Senator has distributed Jamb Forms and provided accompanying tutorial classes for free. He has also established a youth program to provide funding assistance to burgeoning entrepreneurs.
Senator Saraki informed the gathering that the communities will not be charged for the operating costs for the two grader machines. He also made it known that the graders will work six days in a week from 9am to 6pm. The Senator also stated that interested youth will be taught how to operate the machine as means of employment. The Senator pledged not to relent on his efforts to ensure more developmental projects are attracted to every corner of his constituency. He stated that his efforts will complement that of the State government to serve the people.
Executive Governor of Kwara state, Alhaji Abdulfatai Ahmed, commended the initiative of Senator Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki. He described the commissioning of the project as “a new dimension in our democratic experience”. Governor Ahmed also added that the project is the first of its kind by any Federal Legislator. The Kwara State Governor attested to the fact that Senator Saraki continues to prove himself as a quality leader.
Governor Ahmed further assured the people that the State Government will support Senator Saraki’s project by tarring any roads “Senator Bukola Saraki Graders” work. He urged the masses to be weary of politicians who come around by six months to election to try to deceive them with empty promises. The Governor closed by reminding the people of his pledge to continue to serve them.
